Pay Attention to PEACE, PROPAGANDA, AND THE PROMISED LAND: US MEDIA AND THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT

The work of Dr. Sut Jhally is certainly not unheard of here, I have previously written about his film productions of Jack Shaheen's REEL BAD ARABS and the interview-based evocation of Edward Said's ORIENTALISM.  Both those films are extremely well-developed short subjects worthy of review for anyone curious about the topic.  However, (dirs. Bathsheba Ratzkoff, Sut Jhally, 2004), while certainly dated and marked by imagery of Ariel Sharon's premiership and George W. Bush's Presidency, remains a pertinent and informative work that excels well beyond the aforementioned works.  In a concise and detailed fashion, it goes into every single topic that comes up in the debate and deconstructs them with precision.  Media obfuscation?  Settlement culture?  Suicide bombings?  All here and all given the thorough exhibition necessary with interviewees including Noam Chomsky, Hanan Ashrawi, Robert Fisk, and Alisa Solomon.  An important film not to be missed.
