Edward Said, a secular Palestinian scholar of comparative literature, changed the academic world and how it regarded the East through his book ORIENTALISM, a dissection of racism towards Eastern peoples and, in extension, a critique of our own Western geo-political attitudes.  Prof. Sut Jhally's adaptation of the book is a worthwhile short subject documentary that serves as an extremely concise primer on the topics Said discusses in the book.
